Ignite your light…
Classical yoga is a profound practice rooted in ancient traditions, emphasizing physical postures, breath control, meditation, and ethical principles to cultivate holistic well being. It invites students to explore the union of body, mind, and spirit, fostering self awareness and inner peace. Traditional yoga focuses on the eight limbs as outlined by Patanjali, guiding practitioners through a journey of self discovery and connection with the universe. This timeless approach encourages balance, harmony, and mindfulness, providing a foundation for personal growth and resilience in the face of lifes challenges. At Shine on Yoga, we honor and instruct from this classical lineage while integrating some contemporary practices to suit every individual on their unique path to healing and fulfillment.
What’s Hatha Yoga?
Hatha yoga, drawing from ancient Sanskrit, beautifully represents the balance of sun and moon energies, with ‘ha’ symbolizing the sun and ‘tha’ the moon. This practice, as taught in the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, a 15th-century text by Swami Swatmarama, fosters physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Through a blend of asanas (postures), pranayama (breath work), and meditation, Hatha yoga deepens connection to body and spirit, enhancing flexibility, strength, inner tranquility, and balance, guiding you on a journey of health and self-discovery, towards the Atman, the truth of your being.
what’s vinyasa yoga?
Vinyasa yoga is an invigorating practice that harmonizes movement and breath, creating a fluid and meditative experience. With roots in the Sanskrit phrase meaning “to place with awareness,” vinyasa invites you to flow gracefully from one pose to another, cultivating mindfulness and intention. Each breath serves as a guide, allowing you to immerse yourself fully in the rhythm of your practice. Embrace the transformative power of each inhale and exhale, turning your movements into a captivating expression of mindfulness and vitality.

Reiki and Meditation:
A lovely and effective way to support your meditation practice is in a group setting. You will be guided through a spoken meditation as well as recieve Reiki. Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing, founded by Mikao Usui in the early 1900s. The word itself comes from two Japanese concepts translated as “universal life energy”. In Reiki, a practitioner lightly places hands on or just above the body with the intention of supporting relaxation, energetic balance, and the body’s natural healing processes. Energy centers are restored to their natural state of flow improving overall health. Participants describe the experience as calming, warm, grounding, or deeply restorative. This blend of Reiki and Meditation facilitates healing on all levels. Come as you are. Class can be experienced seated or reclining.
restorative yoga:
Allow yourself a deep, full body sigh. Through the use of several props, the restorative practice completely shifts the mind, body, and spirit into the “rest and digest’ energy of the parasympathetic nervous system. Founded by Judith Lasater, restorative yoga is highly influenced by B.K.S. Iyengar and the prop supported approach of Iyengar yoga. A valuable counter practice for our highly demanding lifestyles; you will experience lower blood pressure, significantly reduced heart rate and cortisol levels, improved sleep quality, and boosted immunity. Regular practice cultivates mindfulness, self awareness, and emotional resilience, allowing for a calm, more present mindset. Accessible to all.
shine on flow:
A unique blend of styles, this class differs depending on the instructor. All Shine On flows are a Hatha Vinyasa flow, as this class flows through prescribed postures to move through any physical stagnation and/or energetic blocks, weaving connection of body, mind, and soul. Modifications and variations are always offered to challenge more experienced yogis, and also to support newer students. Blending alignment, technique and breath, this class has something for everyone. This class will prepare you for the final resolve of meditation, as it quiets the mind, body and breathe for you to surrender to the savasana (final meditation). Suitable for all levels of experience.
soma Flow:
Soma: The nectar of life; the ambrosia of the divine through which one rejuvenates and restores body, mind, and spirit to vitality, strength, and union.
This class accounts for what the practitioner’s needs of the day are. Always a meditation in motion, we will stimulate soma as we move mindfully through the practice, building strength and stability through the yang Hatha poses and mobility as we incorporate ease into movement through the yin practice. Expect mantra chanting as we close class. You will leave feeling elated.
Sunrise flow:
Awaken each morning with our refreshing sunrise flow, a Hatha Vinyasa practice that connects your body, breathe and spirit as you start your day. This gentle yet energizing session uses sun salutations to align your breath with movement, filling you with vitality. As you move through the postures, you’ll enhance your mindfulness and set a positive tone for the day ahead. Embrace the rising sun and let your practice help you approach challenges with confidence and energy.
yin yoga:
A relatively more modern form of yoga, Yin was largely shaped in the 1980’s by Paul Grilley, Paulie Zink and Sarah Powers. The practice is rooted in the Hatha yoga tradition along with concepts of Taoist philosophy and Chinese medicine; particularly the meridian theory, (energetic pathways of the body) and the idea of targeting these specific meridians for a desired result. Yin invites a surrender to the posture in order to soften muscular effort and introduce fluid and mobility to fascia, joints, ligaments and to encourage movement of chi (energy) through the meridians. Restorative in nature, you will also experience a deep stretch and opening for the physical body.
yin & restorative flow:
A beautiful combination of the poses and philosophies of Yin yoga and Restorative yoga. We begin our practice by entering the more dynamic yin poses and then end the class by settling the nervous system completely into “rest and digest” mode by moving into restorative postures. Props are used throughout the class, to assist and support the body as appropriate. Sound healing and guided meditation may be incorporated.
Yin/yang flow:
Yin/Yang is a vinyasa flow of complimentary forces. This class starts with a smooth, meditative warm up and following the breathe, is lead into an engaged, energetic flow to strengthen and activate the body.
Therapeutic: During Savasana, expect Thai massage adjustments of the body to provide full relaxation and cultivate conscious surrender.
Sound Healing: During Savasana, expect sound healing elements and some adjustments to provide full relaxation and cultivate conscious surrender.
